Supporting Learning at Work Week 2019: Shaping the Future

Future of Skills 2030

Preparing people for the jobs of the future is core to Pearson’s mission of helping people make progress in their lives through learning. A student entering formal education today will be making decisions about his or her career by the year 2030. That’s why Pearson launched a comprehensive research project that moves the conversation about the future of work past automation.

Based on the work by leading researchers, the Future of Skills: Employment in 2030 project considers the major trends that will affect employment from technological change through urbanisation to political uncertainty to help  better predict how  these trends—and the interactions between them—will affect the future of work. It also shines a light on the skills that are likely to be in greater demand, including interpersonal skills, higher-order cognitive skills, and systems skills in the future.

Discover the skills you’ll need to be successful in 2030.

Based on the research findings from the Future of Skills: Employment in 2030 report, our online tool will tell you the skills you'll need for a successful career in 2030.   Find out how the skills you'll need for one career compare to the skills needs of other professions.

We invite you and colleagues to discover the skills you’ll need in 2030

To find out more about the research and the implications for employers, educators and individuals, visit the Future of Skills website.

BTEC Works

We know employers need qualified candidates with the right skills, knowledge and can-do attitude who can add value to their business from day one. In fact, 75% of businesses who took part in a 2017 Pearson/CBI survey said they expect higher-skilled roles to increase, but 61% fear there will be a lack of sufficiently skilled people to fill them.

A BTEC qualification is unlike any other because it works for everyone.  It works for learners who get the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in their careers. And, it works for employers who want to recruit young people with the knowledge and skills needed to hit the ground running.  BTEC works because it delivers real skills that creates real success for businesses and learners.

For more information visit our website.

"When you choose a BTEC it says to me you're willing to think differently about your future and your career.  Those are the people that I'm very interested in hiring. My BTEC was the most life-changing thing I did."

Sharmadean Reid MBE, Entrepreneur and Founder of WAH Nails

"BTEC helps students get the skills that today's employers are looking for."
