The participation age was raised to the 18th birthday in September 2015.
Currently around 8.5 per cent of under 18 year olds are not meeting the duty to participate. The government is continuing to monitor and investigate the support currently available to  young people to stay in education and training, or to enter the labour market and the barriers they face in doing so.
This session is a timely point to assess the impact of the legislation and what else needs to be done to maximise participation.  We are delighted that Michelle Thompson and Bill Martin from the NEET and Participation Team at the Department for Education will speak and Julian Gravatt, Assistant Chief Executive at the Association of Colleges will act as respondent.

The session will be chaired by Tricia Hartley from the Campaign for Learning and held under the Chatham House Rules and there will be plenty of time for questions and discussion
