Hello and welcome to the latest edition of the Learning to Learn newsletter

I hope you've had a good summer break, and are feeling refreshed for the new term. The last few months have been very busy here at the Campaign for Learning. Our Support Our Schools one-day training workshops on Learning to Learn are proving popular, and we have more planned this term. We ran a successful one-day National Learning Forum on the learning implications of the Olympics in July, and are following this up with a day on Wellbeing in early October, as well as running a series of Learning to Learn, Family Learning and parental involvement conferences. Our policy briefings took a break over the summer but are now in full flow again, looking at topics such as SEAL, the Foundation Learning Tier and the Conservatives' proposed Pupil Premium. As well as continuing to run these in London, we are taking them to other parts of the country this year, so look out for events in your area.

We've recently concluded two of our two-year projects, and are busy disseminating the findings. The first was a Lottery-funded project on involving Dads in supporting their children's learning using a coaching model, and the second investigated ways of engaging young parents in learning in Young Offenders' Institutions, and was funded through Sainsbury's Trusts. Look out for reports on these on our website and at our events, or contact us for more details.

We're now gearing up for the tenth annual Family Learning Festival, which will take place throughout the month of October. We started this initiative as Family Learning Day in 1998 to support organisations from schools to sports centres to involve parents and grandparents in learning with their children, and it has grown through demand from the organisations that take part. New for this year is the Google Maps feature on the website which allows organisers and families to spot events in their local areas. If your school isn't already involved, it's not too late to take part - visit our website or call Jamie on 020 7766 0001 for more details

And finally, as someone who started off as a primary school teacher and worked her way right through the age-groups until she ended up teaching adults in FE, I'm delighted that we are extending our Learning to Learn project into FE this term. There is a long-established body of practice in many FE Colleges that owes a great deal to Learning to Learn approaches, although relatively few Colleges use this terminology. Schools and Colleges have much to gain from sharing their practice, and I for one will be fascinated to see what further insights we can gain from each other.

Wishing you a successful term of Learning to Learn,
Tricia
