New era for the Campaign for Learning starts with learning at work

The Campaign for Learning has moved into a new era with the appointment of Linda Siegle as its chief executive. Linda (above left) was formerly the Campaign's regional director for the south. Tricia Hartley (above right), previously regional director for the north, is the new deputy chief executive.

Linda's first major public engagement as chief executive was to launch Learning at Work Day 2005 at the Department of Trade and Industry in London. Employers, learning providers, trade union leaders, peers and MPs joined Campaign staff and partners to explore the role of learning in the workforce today.

Guest of honour, the new Minister for Education and Skills, Phil Hope thanked the Campaign for Learning for "helping to put adult learning at the top of the agenda" and praised the achievements of Learning at Work Day in providing a "very real springboard of opportunity for, quite literally, thousands of people."

The Minister shared a platform with Catherine Bell and Edward Barker from the Dti, Helen Milner of Ufi and Barry Brooks from the Skills for Life Strategy Unit. They were joined by employees who spoke about their own successful learning journeys. The main message behind the launch, and the Day itself, was how organisations need to look at providing a holistic approach to workplace learning for all employees.
