Are you ready for action!

While families across the country were actively learning, key players in education were being called to action themselves with the launch of an important new document to raise the profile of family learning.

With around 7,500 events nationwide from drumming in libraries to spelling lessons in leisure centres, Family Learning Week is an excellent example of how successful partnerships can provide learning that is fun, accessible and relevant to all. The Week and other initiatives are highlighted in Family Learning: An Agenda for Action which aims to show the crucial role family learning can play in society.

Family Learning An Agenda for Action sets out a number of recommendations for government departments and local bodies to 'take family learning from the margins into the mainstream' as urged by Ivan Lewis, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills and Vocational Education. In this strong collaborative statement, the Campaign for Learning, NIACE and ContinYou bring together research evidence and case examples to build a vision of the future with learning embedded in all services for families.

Copies of Family Learning: An Agenda for Action are available from Southgate Publishers, priced £5 plus pp. Tel: 01363 776888 or visit www.southgatepublishers.co.uk
