LAW Day Awards

Every year, the Campaign for Learning runs sponsored awards for Learning at Work Day. The deadline for this year's awards is 30 June.

For 2010 we have two categories for awards:

Learning at Work Day Award for Inspiring Learning sponsored by The Open University

The winners for National Learning at Work Day Awards 2009 were as follows:

Delivering against the Business Plan, sponsored by Investors in People.

This award was for the organisation which best demonstrated how its Learning at Work Day activities aligned to business planning and goals. Delivering against the Business Plan, sponsored by Investors in People. This award was for the organisation which best demonstrated how its Learning at Work Day activities aligned to business planning and goals. The joint winners were WHSmith and the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA). WHSmith offered activities to a wide range of audiences including Head Office, store and field based employees. Activities included master classes, learning voice conferences and a dedicated intranet site tailored to support key personal and business objectives. The NPIA ran activities including ‘meet the police’ events that gave staff the opportunity to meet front-line police officers. They also had a wide programme that helped staff to continue to deliver a high level of service to police forces. ADT Fire and Security was also highly commended for offering employees a diverse range of sessions designed to develop skills and talents.

Inspiring Learning, sponsored by the Open University.

This was given to the organisation which best demonstrated how it gave employees and employers alike, a taste for learning and personal development. The winner was the Royal United Hospital NHS Trust, Bath, which branded its Learning at Work Day ‘Proud of our Learners’ and showcased development opportunities, ran clinical skills refresher sessions and provided access to e-learning for its 4500 staff. The IT Services company CSC was highly commended for its efforts which saw the use of its learning resources increase by 80%.

Skills for Life, sponsored by Get On and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

This award was for the organisation which best demonstrated how it supported staff to develop their key literacy, numeracy and language skills. the winner Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council was chosen because of its carefully measured approach to engaging staff in conversations about literacy and numeracy skills. They marketed it as an opportunity to “Brush up on your Skills” and launched it with an informal breakfast, with a chat and a bacon butty! Your Homes Newcastle were highly commended for its efforts, which included running workshops for staff and providing information about the opportunities for Skills for Life learning in the local area.
