Research Reports

The Campaign for Learning has conducted wide-ranging research into learning since its inception. We also undertake research projects for organisations wishing to build on our expertise. Please see below some of our more recent research.

Provider Influence on the Home Learning Environment

Published July 2011

This research was commissioned by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (now the Department for Education) from the Family and Parenting Institute in partnership with the Campaign for Learning, to help identify what nurseries and other early years settings could do to better support parents to develop their children’s learning at home. The research analyses this issue using both quantitative and qualitative data.

The aim of the study is to help identify which strategies are most effective in supporting parents to give their child the best start in early home learning.
The findings identify best practice, help quantify the benefits of support to parents and offer suggestions about how to make best use of resources at a time of financial constraint.

Learning to Learn in FE Literature Review

Published January 2010

In 2008 the Campaign for Learning was commissioned by CfBT Education Trust to undertake this literature review to explore learning to learn in FE, with a view to identifying research already undertaken on effective practice in England and elsewhere. Its purpose was to provide an up-to-date review of literature exploring learning to learn in post-16 learning in England, with reference to relevant international studies. It sought evidence of effective learning to learn practice in the FE sector in England and elsewhere in the world, to identify how practice might be improved in order to support successful learning to learn approaches in future, and to identify the policy implications for England.
