Ideas and Activities
So, what can you actually do for your staff to help them get fit for work, fit for the future? What activities can you offer? The good news is, the hard work has been done for you! Visit the A–Z Of Activities, for a menu of tried and tested, off-the-shelf activities: from a Counter Workout to Getting to Grips with Pensions. All you have to do is choose the activities – and deliver.
The prime aim of the Live Long & Prosper project is to encourage employees to think about their retirement in a holistic way – getting not just financially ready, but physically and mentally as well. That is why we have divided activities into sections: Retirement Planning, Getting Active, Healthy Living, and Emotional Well-Being.
As well as the structured, bite-sized activities you offer staff, consider running some fun ‘tasters’ that staff can dip in and out of. Here are a few ideas to get you going:
- Smoothie-making and fruit kebabs: Buy some fresh fruit, juice, yoghurt and milk, along with some paper cups and kebab sticks. Encourage staff to try out different fruit combinations, using this recipe as a guide. If you fancy being clever, try the brain-friendly recipes and explain the ‘science’ behind them.
- Indian Head Massage and Hand Massage: Invite some local practitioners in to give on-the-spot massages. It’ll do wonders for stress levels and help staff to relax.
- Run an Advice Surgery: See if a friendly, local Independent Financial Adviser – or someone from the Citizens Advice Bureau – will drop by to offer impartial financial advice, if staff feel they are ready to take the next steps.
- You may also wish to consider linking in Live Long & Prosper activities to an ‘of the moment’ media campaign or national awareness-raising day. For example, what could you do to coincide with national No Smoking Day or Stress Awareness Week?
