Events can focus on our surroundings in terms of your local environment and issues such as litter and gardening to bigger global issues such as endangered species and carbon footprint.

Activity ideas

• Scrap Heap Challenge – Turning old house waste into masterpieces. An art competition element could engage even the most reluctant family member to take part while at the same time highlighting the personal benefits of recycling.
• Size Does Matter – Measure the family’s carbon footprint. Work in teams or families to estimate the size of their carbon footprint and then find steps to help reduce it.
• Ground Workforce – Giving something back to the local community. Work with local neighbourhood groups to rejuvenate green spaces and gardens in the local area that can benefit the whole community.
