Themes

This year’s theme is “Get Together - Discover More!’ to encourage everyone from organisers to families to spend time learning together. Organisers are encouraged to hold activities under the following activity areas:

Thinking skills can help improve learning, effectiveness in the workplace and life quality. It is all about learning to discover how to discover. These skills include:

1. Enquiry skills
2. Information processing skills
3. Reasoning skills
Evaluation skills
4. Problem-solving skills
5. Creative thinking

Activities can range from making time to find out about local parks or an event where you talk about how families can make a difference on a global scale in terms of their carbon footprint, using up food or recycling.

Family Learning Festival events are an ideal vehicle for embedding Skills for Life activities, as they are non-threatening, relaxed and fun! Research indicates that helping children with homework is a great motivator to get parents back into learning. So if you are trying to get adults to sign up for your course, open it up by holding a Family Learning taster session to get reluctant parents through the doors.

This is a theme that gives organisers the freedom to focus on the areas that are most important to them. This can include anything from family trees to ethnic roots to a family sharing their interest in gardening. Or you could focus in on individuals to explore issues such as mental health, self esteem or confidence.

Updated planning guide

See our updated planning guide, which covers information and advice on planning your Family Learning Festival events

We need you!

As we're all aware, the economic conditions mean that everyone's budgets are stretched. So, we need your help to share ideas with new and existing organisers on how to get the most out of Family Learning Festival events. We'd like you to upload video clips about how to organise an event, your top tips or ideas for activities. If you have footage of event itself that's even better - please get permission from attendees before filming and uploading anything to a public arena.

Once you have your video upload it to www.youtube.com and tag it with "Family Learning Festival" and drop us a line to let us know at flf@cflearning.org.uk
