Supporting national strategies

The Family Learning Festival offers you a chance to do something different and make a difference in your community. Encouraging learning for families can help to promote and support a number of national government strategies, which aim to improve the lives of children and adults. These include:

  • The Every Child Matters Agenda, which aims to support the well being of children and young people from birth to age 19.

  • Children’s Centres and Extended schools, which are designed to help parents balance work and family commitments. They offer family learning and a range of services.

  • The Early Years Foundation Stage for pre-school children’s learning and development.

  • The Skills for Life agenda, which promotes the development of functional skills that support individuals at work and in their home life such as English, maths and ICT. For more information on supporting Skills for Life through your Family Learning Festival events see our Skills for Life pages.

  • The Informal Adult Learning strategy, which promotes learning for its own sake. It may be learning for enjoyment, personal fulfilment and intellectual, creative and physical stimulation.

  • The Government’s Skills Strategy, which supports the development of skills and achievement of qualifications that benefit individuals and the economy.
