About FLF
National Family Learning Festival (FLF), the biggest annual celebration of family learning, will take place between Saturday 17 October to Sunday 31 October. It aims to draw attention to the importance of family learning and skills. Each year, thousands of organisations take part in FLF and stage fun learning activities to help families brush up on their exisiting skills, enjoy something different and discover together.
By getting involved in the biggest annual celebration of family learning you could reach new audiences, build new partnerships and help reach your organisational goals - all at the same time!
Organised by the Campaign for Learning (CfL), the Family Learning Festival aims to engage parents/carers and children in learning together, particularly families who may feel less confident about learning, by offering fun and informal activities. Family learning is a powerful way of engaging parents and carers in learning with their children as it is non-threatening and non-stigmatising, and most parents are motivated to help their children.
This year’s theme is “Get Together - Discover More!’ to encourage everyone from organisers to families to spend time learning together. Organisers are encouraged to hold activities under the following activity areas:
The Campaign for Learning offers support for organisations wishing to run Family Learning Festival, including planning guides, activity ideas, promotional materials and special offers. Last year, thousands of organisations took part including schools, libraries, museums and shopping departments.

Campaign for Learning welcomes Ofsted report on family learning
Family learning, where children and parents engage together in learning sessions, leads to improved communication, confidence and interpersonal skills in children according to a recent Ofsted report. Children also settled in better in class and had improved relationships with teachers and other children following the sessions. The report found that family learning can also lead to qualifications and employment for parents and give them the confidence and skills to help their child. The Chief Inspector recommends that family learning should be promoted as a core school activity. Read the full report.

We need you!
As we're all aware, the economic conditions mean that everyone's budgets are stretched. So, we need your help to share ideas with new and existing organisers on how to get the most out of Family Learning Festival events. We'd like you to upload video clips about how to organise an event, your top tips or ideas for activities. If you have footage of event itself that's even better - please get permission from attendees before filming and uploading anything to a public arena.
Once you have your video upload it to www.youtube.com and tag it with "Family Learning Festival" and drop us a line to let us know at flf@cflearning.org.uk See what we already have on our channel youtube.com/familylearningtelly Need some help on making a video.
