Learning Revolution: Small grants for first-time Family Learning Festival organisers

*Round Two Grant Application opened - deadline 25 September 2009 - successful applicants to be notified by 1 October 2009*

As part of the Learning Revolution Festival, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills has teamed up with the Campaign for Learning to provide small grants of up to £250 for activities organised as part of the Family Learning Festival 2009, which takes place from 17-31st October. To be eligible for this grant you must be a first-time Family Learning Festival event organiser.

All events funded under this grant must have clear learning outcomes for adults as well as children or young people. We welcome applications for events designed to reach families that are least likely to engage in learning. We will also be looking for events that are designed to be imaginative and fun. For more information about planning a Family Learning Festival event visit our resource section. Successful applicants for Round 1 will be notified by 21 September 2009. Successful applicants for Round 2 will be notified by 1 October 2009.

Family Learning Festival Grants FAQs

Can organisations outside of England apply?
No, the funding is available only for organisations based in England.

Can organisations who have previously run an event during the Family Learning Festival/Family Learning Week apply for the grant?
Not on their own. The grants have been made available to encourage new activity and form new partnerships. Previous organisers of Family Learning Festival events can work in partnership with an organisation which hasn’t run an event, but it must be the organisation which is new to the festival who applies for the grant.

Can an organisational service e.g. library service, apply for a grant to run an event at a different venue with a different audience?
Yes, but it must be the individual branch/venue which takes the lead in applying for the grant.

Can I apply on behalf of more than one organisation?
No, each organisation must apply for their own grant.

Can we run an event just for parents which focuses on helping them to help their children learn?
No, the event needs to bring families together on the day to engage in learning together.

Can we charge for events?
A key aim of the grant is to support inclusive events. Charging families to attend events is discouraged as this may create a barrier to attendance. Organisers must also try to secure free or low cost venue space.

Can we run an event for people of all ages that are not necessarily related?
Yes, but they must be from within the same community.
