Dads in Demand

The Dads in Demand Project, which is funded by the Big Lottery Family Learning Programme, will enable children and their dads, granddads, step dads or other male carers to enjoy innovative and stimulating family learning opportunities. The activities will embed Learning to Learn principles in a context of animation and new media and technology and respond directly to families’ needs, ideas and interests. The Project will create a dynamic new partnership between 3 national organisations, working in conjunction with 14 local delivery partners and families themselves.
This project will work with 240 dads and 360 children to develop innovative family learning activities based on dads' own ideas, using new technologies and film. The work will build on the success of the 'Putting Dads in the Picture' engagement project and use 'learning to learn' methodology to design and develop it. It will deliver 24 Family Learning programmes in North Solihull, London and Newcastle locations and contain in built core skills and impact measures, making them suitable for future adaptation to Local Authority delivery nationally. The programmes will be delivered in partnership with the British Film Institute and Futurelab to introduce dads and their children to new technology, animation and film, develop their knowledge and skills and increase dads' ability to support children's learning more effectively.
