Both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have made proposals for a pupil premium targeted on under achievers from poor backgrounds in England. Recently the Institute for Fiscal Studies published a report modelling the different options for a pupil premium. The pupil premium is the most important funding policy to emerge in education and skills in the build up to the general election and this seminar will be of interest to all those involved in schools policy. We are delighted that Haroon Chowdry from the IFS will discuss how a pupil premium will impact on attainment, schools and local authorities in England.

In addition the seminar will consider the impact of the pupil premium on 16-19 year olds including the funding of young people in Colleges as well as Schools. Julian Gravatt, Assistant Chief Executive from the AOC will consider whether a pupil premium will widen the funding gap between school sixth forms and FE Colleges. Mark Corney, Policy Adviser to the Campaign will examine some of the broader issues of the 5-19 pupil premium 5 and the 14-19 phase, especially the suggestion of full time FE from age 14 as proposed by both the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats.
