The Emergency Budget and the Education and Skills Policy of the Coalition Government
Yorkshire Forward
16 July 2010
| 11am-1pm £99 plus VAT (10% discount for Friends of the Campaign) An in-depth critical assessment With the publication of the coalition agreement, the Queen's Speech and the allocation of £6.2bn worth of cuts, we begin to have an idea of the direction for education and skills policy under the Coalition Government. Additionally the Chancellor has announced his plans to balance the budget by 2015/16. Over £200 billion worth of cuts in public spending with be required to achieve this ambition. The Department for Education might receive assistance for introducing Free Schools, expanding Academies, and protecting core school and 16-19 budgets, but other spending faces massive cuts. Meanwhile the budget for the Business, Innovation and Skills Department, including adult FE and Universities, looks vulnerable, and so too do elements of spending by the Department for Work and Pensions. Chaired by Tricia Hartley, Chief Executive of the Campaign for Learning, with commentary from Chris Waterman, Editor of Children’s Services Weekly, this seminar will provide a critical assessment of the education and skills policies of the new government as they are developing, as well as the proposed budget cuts in these areas. Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss the points and issues raised and contribute intelligence from their own areas of work. | ||||||||
