| Time: 9.30am - 1.15pm Cost: £125 plus VAT Are government initiatives in lifelong learning and skills cutting across each other? With the plethora of initiatives for both pre and post 16 year olds is there cohesion in the approaches? Inequality indicators are showing that the gaps are getting wider instead of smaller. There is a strong argument that the government’s focus on workplace learning and the initiative to raise the learning leaving age will both be counter productive in terms of social inclusion and child poverty. The Campaign for Learning is hosting a National Learning Forum to debate the ideal and the reality of lifelong learning and skills in England and where the needs still lie. Speakers will include: · Professor Bob Fryer, Chief Learning Advisor, Department of Health. · Simon Bartley, Chief Executive, UK Skills. · Tom Wilson, Head of Organisation and Services Department, TUC · Tricia Hartley, Chief Executive, Campaign for Learning Questions that the forum will address will include: · What is lifelong learning and skills? · What are the implications of the economic downturn for initiatives that rely on a strong economy e.g. Apprenticeships, Train to Gain, higher level learning, support for the proposed new entitlement for employees under 18, and the right to request time off to train? · Will skills accounts succeed in tapping employee demand? · What is the role of informal learning in the lifelong learning arena? | ||||||||||||
