| Time: 10am - 4pm Cost: £175 plus VAT In the light of recent developments in the FE sector and the need for new models to help young people take charge of their own learning in the lead-up to the proposed raising of the participation age , the Campaign for Learn has launched a pilot research project to examine how young people and adults learn how to learn in FE. The Campaign for Learning's Learning to Learn in Schools Project has been running for eight years, and has demonstrated a positive impact on SATs results, motivation, attendance and behaviour, as well as on ‘soft skills’. A parallel project in FE , encompassing a range of good practice that already exists through such areas as key skills, PLTS, thinking skills and study skills that help young people and adults become aware of how they learn best, how they can develop their learning skills and how they can take charge of their own learning, was a natural next step. This conference will examine the issues for learning and teaching in a sector that is often considered the poor relation to HE and schools, where professional development has tended to focus more on vocational updating than on pedagogy. Keynote presentations will be made by: - Professor Frank Coffield, Institute of Education University of London and author of 'Just suppose teaching and teaching became the first priority...'; - David Collins, President, Association of Colleges - Brian Wood, Critical Skills Ltd - Dr Kate Wall, University of Newcastle and lead research of the Campaign's Learning to Learn in FE project - Theresa Thornton, Northumberland College Questions the event will examine include: - What can practitioners in FE and schools learn from each other ? - How can the FE sector most effectively build and implement strategies focused on teaching and learning ? - What good practice on learning to learn already exists in FE, and how can it be built on? - What are the barriers to learning to learn in the FE Sector and how can they be overcome? - Is the sector ready to manage the impact of current policy developments? | ||||||||
