Adult Skills and Welfare to Work in an Economic Downturn
NCFECitygate
St James' Boulevard
Newcastle upon Tyne
NE1 4JE
20 November 2008
| Time: 11am - 1pm Cost: £99 Plus VAT This briefing will examine whether we need a more flexible Adult FE and skills system that can respond to the economic cycle. During periods of stable and steady economic growth the balance of public funding can be directed at an employer driven system of Train to Gain and Adult Apprenticeships. Conversely, during an economic downturn employer demand might be low but, adult demand might rise as those fearing the lose of their jobs need to be up-skilled and re-skilled. At the same time, integrated Welfare to Work policies will be needed more than ever to ensure that gains in this area are not lost again as the employment market tightens up. Eleanor Bale, GoSkills Business Advisor NW, will speak on the impact from a Sector persepective. Gillian Miller, Regional Skills Director at LSC North East, will discuss the issues with particular reference to the North East of the country. Tricia Hartley, Chief Executive to the Campaign, will chair. | ||||||||||||
