Adult Skills and Welfare to Work in an Economic Downturn
Campaign for Learning19 Buckingham Street
London
WC2N 6EF
16 October 2008
| Time: 2pm - 4pm Cost: £99 Plus VAT This briefing will examine whether we need a more flexible Adult FE and skills system that can respond to the economic cycle. During periods of stable and steady economic growth the balance of public funding can be directed at an employer driven system of Train to Gain and Adult Apprenticeships. Conversely, during an economic downturn employer demand might be low but, adult demand might rise as those fearing the lose of their jobs need to be up-skilled and re-skilled. At the same time, integrated Welfare to Work policies will be needed more than ever to ensure that gains in this area are not lost again as the employment market tightens up. John Stone, Chief Executive of the Learning and Skills Network will set out his assessment of the future of funding FE. Fiona Parr, Regional Education Manager - WEA NW Region, will present from the perspective of the Workers' Educational Association. We will also be joined by Paul Warner, Association of Learning Providers, who will discuss the impact on adult skills and Jobcentre Plus. Mick Fletcher and Mark Corney, policy adviser to the Campaign, will act as respondents. | ||||||||||||
