A Golden Opportunity: a lasting learning legacy from the 2012 games
The Old Town Hall29 The Broadway, Stratford, E15 4BQ
East London
02 July 2008
| Cost: £175 plus VAT As preparations for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games come to a climax in Beijing, we are becoming more and more aware of the learning involved in such huge projects - whether it is schools developing interactive programmes and hosting their own Games or China’s massive programme to teach the population basic English, the Games are an opportunity to increase skills. China may also be facing up to the more uncomfortable aspects of learning, such as petitioners finding out more about human rights and the pressure of being in the global spotlight. The Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games mark just four years until the London 2012 Games in the UK, and this National Learning Forum plans to debate the question: Will the UK learn anything from the 2012 Games? Through keynote speeches, interactive debates and real experiences, this event will explore the learning potential of the 2012 Games. Speakers for the conference will explore the skills needed, regeneration issues and the impact on schools, colleges and adult education and discuss whether or not we are making the most of these opportunities. Questions we will be asking include: will the 2012 Games create social regeneration for life or just the life of the Games?; will the Games be a community affair?; will the skills needs of the Games stimulate training opportunities in East London, or will the gaps be filled with Eastern European labour?, and how will learning opportunities be shared outside London? Some of the highlights include: - key note presentations from Mary Conneely, Regional Director Regeneration London, LSC and Kathryn McColl, LOCOG - The real life experience of Annie Vernon, and her mother Morwenna, to take part in the 2012 Games. - interactive session led by organisations including Aim Higher, NEF, PODIUM and the British Go Association | ||||||||||||
