Campaign for Learning supporting the National Year of Reading
The Campaign for Learning is one of the consortium members of the National Year of Reading. We organise two major national campaigns, Learning at Work Day and Family Learning Week. To find out how to get involved in these campaign to support the National Year of reading, see below.
Learning at Work Day
National Learning at Work Day on Thursday 22 May 2008 is the biggest annual celebration of workplace learning. It is run by the Campaign for Learning as part of Adult Learners Week (17 – 23 May). Each workplace shapes LAW Day to the needs of its workforce. You can use it to highlight the National Year of Reading by:
- Highlighting an organisation's commitment to reading and literacy
- Running activities that celebrate reading, increase motivation to read and develop skills
- Promote existing reading opportunities in the workplace, or launch new initiatives
- Signpost employees to further reading opportunities
Campaign for Learning offer support for organisations wishing to run Learning at Work Day including planning packs, activity ideas, promotional materials, conferences and seminars, and regional assistance. Last year an estimated 6,300 organisations took part including large corporations, SMEs, public sector organisations and government departments. By getting involved in the biggest annual celebration of workplace learning you could reach new staff, uncover new skills, and help build new partnerships.
The Family Learning Festival
Family Learning Week is held annually in October to celebrate family learning. It aims to highlight the importance that families can have in supporting each other's learning. To mark its tenth year, Family Learning Week is expanded this year to the whole of the month of October as the Family Learning Festival. Each organisation from supermarkets to Sure Starts can shape their Family Learning Festival event to support the National Year of Reading by:
- Running fun family events that celebrate reading in all its forms
- Taking part in The Big Picture Party as a library
- Working in partnership to highlight reading to new audiences
- Promote and signpost further reading opportunities to families
The Campaign for Learning offers event organisers grassroots support, expert family learning advice, PR support, online and printed resources under the umbrella of a national campaign.
