Learning at Work Day and the Six Book Challenge!
The Campaign for Learning has linked with The Reading Agency, an independent charity working to inspire more people to read more, to offer a prize draw for organisations that run both Learning at Work Day and The Reading Agency’s Six Book Challenge incentive scheme in workplaces in 2010. Organisations that involve a minimum of 20 employees in the Six Book Challenge, in addition to marking Learning at Work Day on 20 May, will be eligible for a national prize draw with a deadline of 30 June. The winning organisation will be offered a visit from a top name author courtesy of Transworld Publishers on a mutually convenient date in autumn 2010.
The annual Six Book Challenge invites less confident adult readers to read six books and record their reading in a diary in order to receive a certificate on completion. Main activity for the Challenge runs from January to June with Learning at Work Day providing an ideal opportunity to celebrate the achievement of participants. Workplaces including Corus steelworks, Tesco, Royal Mail depots, bakeries, hospitals and bus companies have run the Six Book Challenge to date with an increasing number coming on board with the support of union learning reps. Materials for 2010 are available now from The Reading Agency – see www.sixbookchallenge.org.uk/ or contact mail@davidkendall.co.uk for more information on the Six Book Challenge in the workplace.
