The cream of Learning at Work Day

Organisations are putting the finishing touches to their Learning at Work Day events and extravaganzas. Here is just a snap shot of some of the exciting, innovative and engaging learning activities that are taking place across the country on Thursday 22 May to mark Learning at Work Day.

W.H.Smith's High Street and Travel Head Office is taking part with a range of learning activities on offer.

The Royal Holloway University of London is offering staff and students a wide range of short workshops and activities throughout the day.

The Retreat, North Yorkshire, is using Learning at Work Day to build on a decision of management and staff at The Retreat to pursue a more green approach to our working environment.

The Church of Scotland has a numbe rof events planned with the serious messsage of the importance of workplace learning combined with an element of fun.

Comic Relief is giving something back to their employees that work tirelessly for others by hosting their own Learning at Work week .

Unison Highland Healthcare are hoping to build on the success of last year when they host an event at the Raigmore Hospital Inverness on Learning at Work Day for 2008.

South west Trains ULR,s will be holding a Learning Awareness day at Basingstoke Station in the Open Learning Centre on platform 1.

The Boots UK Limited, warehouse in Heywood,, is hosting two Learning at Work Day events called "Fit for Life, Fit for Work, Fit for the Future". The days will include local learning providers, job centre plus, Boots change one thing campaign, ULR run smoothie bars and many more activities.

Lancaster University are holding a Learning at Work day entitled, "Our Sustainable Work Place" with a free breakfast for everyone that cycles to work that morning and a full day of talks, discussions and experiential activities across the campus for all staff.

Salford PCT, working in partnership with Salford Royal Foundations Trust, will be taking an exhibition called "Make a Change, Learn and Develop" around the five areas of their workforce during the whole week to promote health, learning and development opportunities to staff.

The Novas Scarman Group, based in London are having a Power Learning Day with hour-long sessions delivered by staff who have volunteered to share their knowledge on a subject, ranging from Gardening to Time Management and more.

The POA Lifelong Learning Project, Norwich, will be helping staff de-stress for the day with an open workshop based on, amongst other things, the practice of Indian Head Massage as a means of stress relief. On the Day, run in partnership with Adult Education there will be information provided on various courses to do with stress relief, healthy eating and personal exercise, as well as professional Information, Advice and Guidance on all matters connected to learning.

Job Centre Plus, Sheffield have the theme of "Sustainable development and Wellbeing" for their Learning at Work Day celebrations.

National launch of Learning at Work Day

The offical launch of Learning at Work Day 2008 will take place on Wedneday 21 May at the River Room, House of Lords. Minister for Skills, David Lammy will join Campaign staff, partners and leaders in workplace learning and industry to kick start the day of workplace learning celebrations.
