Plans for the offical national launch of the festival are already under way.
Last year's National launch of Family Learning Week took place at the London School of Economics, reflecting on the aspirations that family learning can induce and the belief that fmaily learning can take place anywhere for everyone. Local primary school children and under 5s from the LSE nursery school attended the events along with teachers, parents, Campaign for Learning and LSE staff, Family Learning Week partners and family leanring experts to celebrate the enjoyment and importance of family learning. Helen Milner, UK online centres and her eleven year old son spoke about the role intergenerational learning hsa in bridging the digital divide, Lianne Miller, founder of young & pure said a few words about their work with the Campaign to help families learn more about health and wellbeing while Baroness Amos gave her support for the Campaign for Learning and family learning.
To reflect the fun and excitement of Family Learning Week activities were on offer for everyone, young and old. There were facial demonstrations from young & pure, play dough, model making, beads and other arts and crafts from the LSE nursery and computer fun with UK online centres. Prominent LSE staff read classic chldrens stories while We are What We Do, the LSE Environmental group and a local bookshop were on hand to offer advice and information.

Big Picture Party launch event
Working with the Campaign for Drawing and Booktrust, the Campaign for Learning is encourage libraries to host a Big Picture Party in October to bring picture books and illustrations to life and inspire families to read and draw more together at home. The party will be launched at a showcase event at the British Library on 27 October by top illustrator Quentine Blake. Other well-known illustrators and family learning experts will run a series of activities to get families of all ages passionate about picture books once more. This main party will then be followed by more around the country held in libraries to help families get more out of the wide variety of picture books they can enjoy together.
